A house with history
Our hotel is a listed historical building. It evolved from a former winegrower's estate to a cigar factory and finally to the 4-star hotel in Saxony it is today. Learn more about the history of our hotel here.
The whole story...
The outline of what is now our hotel village can be seen on a map from 1650 – the first small vintner's house. By 1829, the house had been expanded to include an inn and a barn. The entry in our land register likely dates from this period as well.
"The owner of the property has the right to sell the country wine he himself produced and purchased, in the measure established by the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Dresden on January 8, 1780 [...]."
Around the turn of the century, the building that is now the Weißburgunder House housed a gymnasium and later the first cinematograph in the city of Meissen.
Another indulgence arrived with our family's acquisition of the Golden Barrel in the 1920s: tobacco was diligently rolled into fine cigars and sold under the brand "GüSoMei" (Günther & Son Meissen). At the end of the war, both the inn and the cigar factory closed.
During the GDR era, the premises at Vorbrücker Str. 1 housed, among other things, a consumer cooperative, a laundry, and a saddlery cooperative.
The economic hardships of the socialist era left their mark on our buildings as well. After the fall of communism, the farm was in a deplorable state. It was time for reconstruction.
Thanks to the great commitment of our father, it was possible to celebrate our grandmother's 90th birthday in the reopened "Restaurant zum Goldenen Fass" in October 1994.

2020/2021
The second lockdown of the coronavirus crisis unfortunately forces us to close our doors and suspend hotel and restaurant operations. However, we are using this closure to renovate the kitchen, dining area, and reception. The entire ground floor of the main building is undergoing a comprehensive renovation and modernization. The new open kitchen invites guests to dine in, and the culinary concept is being revamped to offer classic cuisine with modern interpretations. Our guests can now look forward to daily changing menus, which are included in our room rates.
