Sightseeing in Dresden

Enjoy tradition & charm on your vacation

Dresden, the provincial capital of Saxony, has flourished. You can only guess how extensive the destruction during WWII was. The Frauenkirche was completely destroyed, but now has become a symbol of  togetherness and peace. Dresden will impress you with art treasures and architectural highlights – that's why it's called "Florence on the Elbe River".

Many tradition-conscious towns near the provincial capital combine age-old culture with Mediterranean style.

A vacation in Dresden – in the Saxon Florence

Enjoy a culture program in the morning in the Grünes Gewölbe museum and a walk in the Großer Garten in the afternoon. In the evening you can visit the glamorous Opera. After that you might want to go out to the trendy neighborhood "Äußere Neustadt" – Dresden is always worth a visit! Especially in December: be sure to experience Saxon Christmas including the typical Christmas pyramids,  decorative candle-holders and the famous Dresden "stollen".

Our Tips for Dresden:

The Frauenkirche:

  • This domed structure on the Neumarkt is the city's landmark and an absolute "must" on your tour through Dresden. Note the light and dark stones in the facade. The lighter stones are new, the darker stones are the original stones from the rubble.

Today it holds the old masters gallery, "Gemäldegallerie Alte Meister", as well as the Dresden Porcelain Collection, the most important porcelain collection in the world.
